
Meet the 2024-2025 Board
President & Editor-in-Chief: Nikolaj Taliga
Nikolaj is an LL.M. Candidate at the University of Groningen, focusing predominantly on European and International Technology Law. He has been a member of the editorial board since 2023, beginning his role as External Liaison. In his role as President and Editor-in-Chief, Nikolaj is responsible for overseeing the journal’s editorial operations and ensuring the timely publication of high-quality, peer-reviewed articles. He also plays a key role in shaping the journal’s strategic direction, fostering its growth, and enhancing its international presence.
Publishing Director: Luigi Sammartino
Luigi (PhD, LL.M.) is a Research Fellow (Post-Doc) and Adjunct Professor in International Law at the University of Insubria (Como - Italy). Currently, he is the Publishing Director of GroJIL. Aside from determining the publishing guidelines, Luigi selects articles for publication, coordinates the editing process and conducts the final review of articles before publication. Luigi ensures that all articles are of an excellent level of quality.
Publishing Director: Ina Opartyová
Ina is a graduate student at the University of Groningen, where she is pursuing her degree in Legal Research. At the same time, she is pursuing a Gender Studies degree at the Utrecht University. Thanks to her diverse academic background, her main areas of interest are critical legal theory and interdisciplinary research, which applies feminist and queer perspectives to law. She is also currently a research assistant for the EVICT project (which focuses on the right to housing) and a lecturer at the Honours College at the University of Groningen. Being another Publishing Director for GroJIL, Ina cooperates with Luigi in managing the publishing process, coordinating the peer review process and ensuring the quality of published articles.
Publishing Director: Mohadeseh Jahangiri
Mohadeseh Jahangiri is a distinguished legal scholar with a strong academic background in international and European law, focusing on key issues such as the rights of nature and reparations for victims of chemical weapons. She has authored several papers on these topics, examining the environmental impact of weapons of mass destruction and their human rights implications. Alongside her academic work, Mohadeseh has international experience working at organisations such as the OPCW and HCCH and currently serves as a legal advisor at the Center for International Legal Affairs (CILA), where she provides strategic counsel on complex international legal issues. Her academic and professional contributions position her as a thought scholar in the intersection of environmental law, human rights, and international justice.
Managing Editor: Eduardo Aguirre Mercado
Eduardo is an LL.M. Candidate at the University of Groningen, specializing in Technology Law and Innovation. Eduardo joined GroJIL in October 2024 as Managing Editor. As Managing Editor, Eduardo chairs the Editing Committee, which is responsible for the GroJIL’s biannual publications. He is ultimately responsible for the content of GroJIL. In his duties, Eduardo determines the publishing guidelines while creating and enforcing the parameters and policies regarding all publications, taking quality and originality as the most important aspects.
Promotional Director, Treasurer: Gergely Turoczi
Gergely is currently pursuing an MSc in Supply Chain Management at the University of Groningen, after earning a BSc in International Business from the same university. Originally from Hungary, he has a strong interest in financial operations and project management. He gained valuable experience in these areas through his role at one of Hungary’s largest music labels, where he manages financial planning, event logistics, and artist bookings. Additionally, as Treasurer and Promotional Director for the Groningen Journal of International Law, he oversees budgeting, website management, and promotional strategies.
Executive Blog Editor: Greta Berardi
Greta is a third year LLB student at the University of Groningen and she has a passion for Public International Law and Refugee Law. She is also a research assistant at the faculty of law and part of the JuLIA project where she focuses on the impacts AI has on fundamental rights. Greta is a curious person with a passion for travelling and meeting new people.
External Liaison: Tobias Madzik
Tobias is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Law & Finance at the University of Amsterdam. In 2024 he earned his Bachelor’s degree in International and European Law at the University of Groningen. The studies that he has been pursuing equipped him with a strong understanding of issues of international law also in relation to finance, business and economics. Tobias has a strong interest in European Law, especially Competition Law and has a solid background in legal research and legal writing. As External Liaison, he is responsible to ensure smooth cooperation throughout the publication process while fostering efficient and professional interactions with everyone involved.
